Former Red Sox World Series Champion Considered A “Strong Candidate” For GM Job

The attention of the baseball world is largely focused on the league championship series.

While we anxiously wait to see what the World Series matchup will be, a fascinating storyline is unfolding in Boston.

Long-considered one of the most prestigious and first-class organizations in all of baseball, the Red Sox are reportedly having a very hard time finding anyone who’s interested in their vacant general manager position.

That’s truly hard to believe – but apparently it’s true.

Regardless, new reports indicate that the Sox could turn to a familiar face for the coveted(?) job.

According to Joel Sherman of The New York Post, former pitcher Craig Breslow who helped win the World Series with Boston back in 2013 has emerged as a legitimate target.

“Cubs assistant general manager Craig Breslow, who was raised in Connecticut and played four years for the Red Sox, is viewed as a potentially strong candidate,” Sherman reported.

Sherman also pointed out a fact that’s become painfully obvious to Red Sox Nation over the past few years.

“There is a sense within the game that ownership has become more absentee as it pursues other business avenues and also that manager Alex Cora has growing influence on personnel decisions,” Sherman said.

Breaking The Curse of the Bambino and winning the World Series was once the obsession of owner John Henry’s life … Four World Series titles later, it appears Henry has lost interest in the organization.

Even worse than taking a step back, he has gotten awfully cheap and has often turned to cost-cutting tactics which has driven Sox fans absolutely crazy.

Breslow may very well be another example of Boston going with the “cheap option.” … After all, there are rumors that Theo Epstein would be interested in the job if the price was right.

You want to re-energize a depressed fan base? – Bring back Theo! … But sadly, it looks like that has no chance of happening.

Given Breslow’s deep-rooted ties to the Red Sox, the prospect of him assuming the garners significant attention.

The word is the two sides are already in deep discussions about him coming aboard.

The former left-handed reliever is a local-boy who graduated from Yale. Since retiring from professional baseball, Breslow has steadily climbed the ranks within the Chicago Cubs front office.

During his tenure with the Red Sox from 2012 to 2015, Breslow left an indelible mark, particularly during the team’s triumphant 2013 World Series run.

Overall, Breslow maintained a 3.80 ERA in his 202 games pitched in Boston.

What are your thoughts on Breslow possibly becoming the GM?

Do you think he’s the right man to help turn things around in Boston?

Or is he just another cheap option for Henry???
