Quarterback Jordan Travis, who was selected in the fifth round of last year’s draft, is stepping away from professional football, as the New York Jets announced today. The decision comes in the wake of a severe injury Travis sustained during his time at Florida State University.

Last November, Travis suffered a fractured and dislocated ankle while leading the Seminoles, and as a result, he found himself on the Jets’ non-football injury list throughout the entirety of 2024. Unfortunately, after significant effort dedicated to his rehabilitation, Travis determined that his leg was not in a condition that would allow him to pursue a career in the NFL.

In an emotional statement released by the team, Travis reflected on this challenging chapter, noting, “On November 18, 2023, my life took an unexpected turn. I gave everything I had to the rehab process, but despite all my efforts, my leg never responded the way we hoped. After much prayer and consultation with the doctors, medical experts, and my agent, I’ve been medically advised to retire from the game I love so deeply.”

As a consequence of his retirement, Travis will be placed on the reserve/retired list, marking the end of a chapter that had such promise.

Jets General Manager Darren Mougey expressed support for Travis’s decision, stating, “Jordan has informed us of his intent to retire due to the injury he sustained while at Florida State. It is unfortunate that he was unable to get back on the field after working so hard. We support his decision and wish him only the best.”

Before his time with the Jets, Travis played one season at Louisville before transferring to Florida State in 2019. Over the course of his college career, he showcased his talent in 46 games, amassing impressive stats with 8,644 passing yards and 65 touchdowns. While his time in the NFL may have been cut short, Travis’s collegiate accomplishments won’t be forgotten, and fans will always remember the impact he made on the field.
