A serious situation has emerged within the Florida Gators basketball program. An employee of the athletics department has lodged a sexual assault complaint against Taurean Green, an assistant men’s basketball coach. This development coincides with an ongoing investigation into allegations of misconduct involving head coach Todd Golden.
According to information, the woman, who chose to remain anonymous due to concerns about potential retaliation, submitted her complaint on Tuesday. She accuses Green of making unwanted advances during a meeting he had arranged.
The incident was first brought to the attention of the university’s Title IX office back in March 2024. However, for reasons related to Green’s position and influence, the woman felt constrained in reporting it until now, particularly after Title IX officials approached her last fall during their investigations into Coach Golden’s conduct with female athletes.
“The law prohibits us from commenting on the existence or status of investigations,” said Florida’s spokesperson Steve Orlando. He reassured that the University of Florida takes such allegations very seriously, underscoring the thorough and fair procedures in place to ensure due process for all involved.
In her complaint, the woman detailed that during a meeting in the athletic facilities, Green allegedly kissed her and attempted to put his hands down her pants. She resisted and told him no, but Green reportedly attempted again before she managed to escape.
This is not an isolated incident within the program, marking the second Title IX complaint against a basketball coach at Florida in the past six months. The first complaint involves head coach Todd Golden, where several women have accused him of sexual exploitation, stalking, and harassment. One woman alleged that Golden sent unsolicited explicit photos and followed her persistently, both in his car and on foot. Another individual reported that Golden would ‘like’ and then ‘unlike’ their Instagram posts in suspicious patterns, describing it as a tactic of manipulation.
Taurean Green, celebrated for his time as a player at Florida, was part of the Gators’ championship teams in 2006 and 2007. With impressive stats, he averaged 13.3 points over his final two seasons with the team before moving to a professional career in 2007. His journey in coaching includes a role with the Chicago Bulls as a player development coordinator in 2021, a return to his alma mater in 2022 as director of player development, and subsequent promotion to assistant coach in 2023.
This unfolding situation puts the Florida athletics department under intense scrutiny as they navigate these serious allegations and their implications for the university and its renowned basketball program.
