Ohio State superstar wide receiver Jeremiah Smith exceeded every expectation in his debut season, putting together a remarkable performance that has many believing he’s destined for greatness.
The Miami Gardens, Florida native, ranked as the No. 1 wide receiver recruit in the nation, delivered a standout freshman campaign, finishing the 2024 season with 76 receptions, 1,315 yards, and 15 touchdowns.
His most eye-popping performance came in the College Football Playoff, where he hauled in 19 passes for 381 yards and five touchdowns.
Smith’s performance has made him a household name, and his immense talent has sparked speculation that he could be ready for the NFL next season.
However, NCAA rules dictate he must stay in college for two more years, which is a win for the Buckeyes, as they get to keep one of the nation’s top prospects for a while longer.
Following Ohio State’s national championship victory, rumors quickly swirled suggesting Smith would leave for another program, with some reports claiming he could join Miami for a reported $5 million NIL deal.
Smith swiftly addressed these whispers, taking to Instagram to shut them down…
“I’m good I promise you,” Smith stated.
Despite the chatter, it’s clear Ohio State is invested in keeping Smith in Columbus.
With his success in 2024, there’s little doubt the Buckeyes have more than enough resources to keep their star receiver happy.
Looking ahead to 2025, Smith is poised to continue shining under new leadership. Ohio State will have a new quarterback and offensive coordinator, with Will Howard and Chip Kelly heading to the NFL.
However, Smith’s elite skills should transcend any concerns about personnel changes, ensuring he remains a focal point of the Buckeyes’ offense.
After Ohio State’s 2024 College Football Playoff National Championship win, Smith shared his excitement about the future.
“Feeling good, feeling good,” Smith said after the Buckeyes defeated Notre Dame in the title game. “Got that first one. Time to get three more… two more.”
Despite losing some key veterans from the championship roster, Ohio State is poised to remain a top contender in 2025.
ESPN has already ranked the Buckeyes No. 1 in their way-too-early 2025 top 25 rankings.
With a revamped roster, including new quarterback Julian Sayin, who transferred from Alabama, and a strong supporting cast featuring tailback CJ Donaldson and tight end Max Klare, Ohio State’s offense will remain potent.
While the defense will see some turnover, with young players stepping into key roles, the return of Caleb Downs provides a solid foundation.
As expected, Ohio State named the polarizing Matt Patricia as their new defensive coordinator today.
Looking ahead, the Buckeyes’ 2025 campaign will kick off with a bang.
The defending national champions will welcome in Arch Manning and the Texas Longhorns to Columbus on August 30. (What a scene that will be, huh?)
Fortunately for Ryan Day and company, their star wide receiver will be staying put. (At least for another year.)
What are your thoughts on Ohio State’s chances at pulling off a repeat???
