Authorities in the Dominican Republic have conducted searches at two residences connected to Tampa Bay Rays star Wander Franco following allegations of inappropriate relations with a minor, as reported by a local news outlet.
The Santo Domingo Prosecutor’s Office for Children and Adolescents carried out searches at Franco’s own residence in Villa Real and his mother’s home in Baní, as documented by Listin Diario, a Spanish-language publication. Neighbors indicated that authorities also left messages for Franco’s wife during the operation.
These investigations stem from allegations against Franco that emerged in late August. The 22-year-old player was placed on administrative leave by Major League Baseball (MLB) “until further notice” after accusations were made regarding his involvement with underage individuals.
It’s essential to note that MLB’s administrative leave, enacted immediately, is not a disciplinary action under the Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, and Child Abuse Policy.
The Tampa Bay Rays, Franco’s team, expressed support for MLB’s decision to place him on administrative leave. They emphasized their commitment to maintaining high standards of integrity both on and off the field, appreciating the patience of fans and supporters during this ongoing process.
Franco’s last appearance for the Rays was on August 12. In response to the allegations, Franco appeared to deny them during an August Instagram Live video conducted in Spanish, stating that people were spreading false rumors about him being in public with a minor. He expressed a preference for avoiding such situations due to unwarranted gossip and speculation.
