Derek Carr’s Surprising Davante Adams Comments Could Swing Trade Race

The Atlanta Falcons pull off a stunning comeback last night to knock off the rival Atlanta Falcons is one of the best games of the early NFL season.

While it seems like he will never be able to silence all his doubters, the fact of the matter is Kirk Cousins had arguably the best quarterbacking performance of the entire season league-wide.

Having said that, the biggest NFL story on the tip of most fans’ minds is the ongoing Avante Adams saga.

Speculation is swirling about the possibility of the six-time Pro Bowler reuniting with his former college quarterback, Derek Carr, on the New Orleans Saints.

Adams recently requested a trade from the Raiders, prompting rumors about potential landing spots for the talented receiver.

One team frequently mentioned is the Saints, largely due to Carr’s presence there. Carr and Adams played together at Fresno State, and their connection was a major factor in Adams’ move to the Raiders.

While things certainly didn’t work out in Vegas, there’s a strong feeling that a potential second-act could be much better.

When asked about all the drama and speculation, Carr didn’t say much, but he did make sure to express clear enthusiasm about the idea.

“I think all 32 quarterbacks would love to play with Davante. We’d be happy to have him,” Carr said. “I don’t know if I’ll get in trouble for saying that, but I think everyone knows that.”

Interestingly, the two former teammates have kept in touch, with Carr acknowledging they’ve been texting this week, though he downplayed it as “nothing crazy.”

It’s no secret in the football world that Carr and Adams are very close friends, so the fact that they’ve been texting is normal. However, it’s hard to downplay the importance of their tight relationship when it comes to what might happen next with Adams.

As Adams’ former Green Bay teammate James Jones pointed out, Carr isn’t Davante’s only close connection to the Saints.

“When I was training, Davante Adams was still in high school. Before Fresno State he used to come out there and train with myself and Keith Williams. Keith Williams recruited him to Fresno State, coached him at Fresno State. He still, every single offseason, wherever Keith Williams was, when he wasn’t in the National Football League, he’d still go and train with Keith Williams,” Jones said on “The Facility.”

“Now Keith Williams is at the Saints. His old quarterback from Fresno State, from the Raiders is at the Saints. Really good chemistry, I think the Saints would be the perfect fit. Like I said before I do not think the Saints are far off.

The Saints, currently 2-2, would certainly benefit greatly from adding a playmaker like Adams.

It should be noted that New Orleans’ salary cap situation isn’t in great shape, so pulling off this trade would be more complicated than making a deal in Madden.

Having said that, it’s fair to wonder if the Saints could potentially leap the favored New York Jets as the likeliest landing spot for the future Hall of Famer.

What do you think of Carr’s comments? … At the end of the day, where will Adams end up???
