Two high-profile college football teams closed out their seasons with bowl game losses on Saturday, leaving fans questioning what could have been.
The No. 13 Miami Hurricanes fell in a nail-biting 42-41 loss to the No. 18 Iowa State Cyclones in the Pop-Tarts Bowl.
Both teams had been contenders for the College Football Playoff as recently as November.
The Hurricanes struggled to capitalize on key opportunities, ultimately falling short by a single point.
Of course, the biggest storyline from the clash was Miami quarterback Cam Ward’s shocking decision to take himself out of the game at halftime.
It’s pretty safe to assume that had Ward stayed in the game, the Hurricanes most likely would have won.
Meanwhile, it was an emotional scene at the Alamo Bowl in San Antonio where Deion Sanders led his two sons along with Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter onto the field one last time.
Unfortunately for Sanders and the Buffaloes, they ended up getting blown out by the BYU Cougars.
Simply put, nothing went right for Colorado as they fell 36-14 in a game that wasn’t as close as that score would indicate.
BYU jumped to a commanding 20-0 lead at halftime, and while Sanders promised adjustments during the break, his team managed only marginal improvements in the second half.
BYU outscored the Buffaloes 16-14 in the final two quarters, sealing Colorado’s fourth loss of the season and extending the program’s two-decade long bowl victory drought.
Quarterback Shedeur Sanders closed out his college career with mixed results, throwing for 208 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions.
Travis Hunter’s impact was limited, although he did record four receptions for 106 yards and a touchdown while adding four tackles on defense.
Despite Colorado’s efforts, BYU’s balanced attack overwhelmed the Buffaloes from start to finish.
The Cougars outgained Colorado 331-210 in total yards, with BYU’s offense orchestrating efficient drives throughout the game.
Colorado entered the game as 2.5-point favorites, but their lackluster performance fueled plenty of criticism on social media…
While some dismissed Colorado as overrated, others gave credit to BYU for an impressive performance.
The Cougars improved to 11-2 with the victory, while Colorado ended their campaign at 9-4.
The losses for both Miami and Colorado bring to a close seasons that, while promising at times, ultimately fell short of expectations.
What are your thoughts on Colorado getting blown out in the final game of the Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter era???
