Dan Lanning Trying To Steal Top QB From Georgia & SEC Powers

Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks have had a challenging February.

The program lost prized four-star 2026 quarterback Jonas Williams to USC, which followed the loss of their No. 1 recruiting class ranking.

But the Ducks are bouncing back by securing a crucial visit from five-star quarterback Jared Curtis, despite heavy competition from Georgia (where he initially committed.)

According to Hayes Fawcett of On3, Curtis will visit Oregon from March 8-12 before heading to Georgia from March 13-16.

This gives Oregon a prime opportunity to impress the highly sought-after quarterback before his visit to the Bulldogs.

The Ducks recently lost their longtime four-star commit, Jonas Williams, who decommitted on February 21 after visiting USC’s junior day earlier that month.

Williams’ decommitment left Oregon without any QB commitments for the 2026 class, forcing Lanning and his staff to refocus their efforts.

Oregon is now in a battle to land Curtis, who has garnered attention from top programs across the country.

While Georgia has been considered the frontrunner for Curtis’ commitment, Oregon remains a strong contender.

“Jared Curtis’ top shelf arm talent and ability to make plays outside of structure remind us of Matthew Stafford at the same stage,” On3 said of the prized prospect.

“Curtis has a bigger frame than Stafford, while Stafford was more proven against top competition playing at a high level of Texas high school football.”

Curtis has received a reported 38 scholarship offers. If he chooses the Ducks, Curtis would become Oregon’s 10th verbal commitment, helping push them to No. 2 in the 2026 recruiting rankings.

Georgia, on the other hand, currently sits at No. 17, with only five players committed to the Bulldogs for the cycle.

For Oregon, the stakes are high. Landing Curtis would not only fill a crucial void at quarterback but also signal that the Ducks are back on track after the disappointment of losing Williams.

The visit from Curtis to Eugene will be a key moment in determining if Oregon can hold off Georgia’s push and secure the five-star recruit’s commitment.
