When star quarterback Carson Beck announced his decision to pass up on the NFL Draft and transfer from Georgia to Miami, attention quickly shifted to his girlfriend, Hanna Cavinder.
Many speculated that her presence at the University of Miami might have influenced Beck’s decision.
However, Cavinder, who has returned to women’s basketball for one final season with the Hurricanes, was quick to clarify that her relationship had no bearing on his move.
“Honestly, I was not involved at all,” Cavinder said. “I know that a lot of people probably think that. But no, I was not involved at all.
“It was honestly what was the best decision for him and where he was gonna fit and be able to be successful. I’m super excited for him. It’s very convenient. Obviously, you can’t beat Miami and the people here.”
Cavinder, who has deep ties to the city of Miami, emphasized that Beck’s decision was based on what would help him grow as a player.
“Obviously, the University of Miami is an amazing campus, and I think it was the best decision for him,” she continued.
“I think he’s gonna love the university. Obviously, I love Miami, so I will stay here. My family’s in Fort Lauderdale, but yeah, I’m super excited for him and to be able to watch him play.”
While Hanna’s presence in Miami may have added convenience, Beck’s transfer was ultimately about his football future.
The former Heisman favorite, who faced struggles and injuries last season, now looks to rebound and elevate his draft stock with the Hurricanes.
Miami head coach Mario Cristobal also praised Beck’s potential and his fit with the program.
“[We wanted Beck for] a lot of the reasons why we liked Cam (Ward) – besides the accuracy and the strong arm, and the ability to just elevate a football team, the guy is just poised to have a great season with the right protection, the right scheme,” Cristobal said.
“Our scheme fits him, our scheme is designed to be really powerful and strong upfront, to get the ball to the playmakers outside, to protect him really well and a very diversified passing game that has a lot of autonomy to it. So he fits us perfectly.”
Of course, Beck and Cavinder were recently in the news for all of the wrong reasons as they were victims of robbery.
Beck had his Mercedes and Lamborghini stolen, while Cavinder had her Range Rover stolen from their home in Florida.
Many Georgia fans were not too pleased when they heard about Beck’s surprising decision to transfer to Miami.
While he was never entirely loved by the majority of the fan base, many Dawg fans felt that Cavinder was part to blame for Beck leaving for Miami.
However, she made it clear that she had nothing to do with his surprising decision.
Again, while many Georgia fans are happy to move on from the Beck era, it still will be weird to see him wearing a different uniform next season.
What are your thoughts on his decision to transfer to Miami? … Should he once again be viewed as a Heisman Trophy contender?
Or was he exposed as soon as Brock Bowers and Ladd McConkey left Athens???
