Georgia quarterback Carson Beck, once considered a top NFL prospect, has decided to pass up on the upcoming draft and instead enter the NCAA transfer portal.

The announcement comes after Beck initially declared for the 2025 NFL Draft just two weeks ago.

In an Instagram post reflecting on his time in Athens, Beck wrote, “The past five years at the University of Georgia have been nothing short of a dream come true, and I will forever cherish the memories that have been made.”

However, Beck’s plans have taken a significant turn.

According to ESPN college football insider Pete Thamel, the Miami Hurricanes are viewed as the favorites to land Beck in the portal.

Beck enjoyed a stellar 2023 season, completing an impressive 72.4% of his passes for 3,941 yards, 24 touchdowns, and just six interceptions.

Despite maintaining strong numbers in 2024 – with 3,485 passing yards, 28 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions – his efficiency dipped.

As it turns out, it’s much easier to be effective when you’re throwing the ball to Brock Bowers and Ladd McConkey.

The season also came to an abrupt end for Beck when he suffered a UCL injury on the final play of the first half in the SEC Championship Game against Texas.

The injury required surgery, which was performed by renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles.

Beck is on track to resume throwing in the spring, a timeline that aligns with his plans to play elsewhere next fall.

Beck’s decision to transfer adds intrigue to his already compelling story.

Entering the 2024 season, he was widely projected as a top-10 NFL Draft pick. Now, he has the opportunity to rebuild his draft stock while potentially leading a new team to the College Football Playoff.

As most fans know, Beck’s girlfriend plays basketball for the Miami Hurricanes.

As the transfer portal continues to reshape college football, Beck’s destination will undoubtedly be one of the most closely watched decisions of the offseason.

While Miami is viewed as the heavy favorites, things can change. (Although they’re not expected to.)
