Cam Ward’s “Cocky” Statement May Shake Up Draft

Cam Ward stepped onto the field at the University of Miami’s Pro Day on Monday with one goal in mind – to prove he’s worthy of the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Before even throwing a pass, the quarterback made his intentions clear.

“I’m solidifying [being the No. 1 overall pick] today,” Ward confidently stated on the NFL Network.

With the Tennessee Titans holding the top pick in the draft, their heavy presence at Ward’s workout spoke volumes.

Among those in attendance were team president of football operations Chad Brinker, general manager Mike Borgonzi, assistant general manager Dave Ziegler, vice president and football advisor Reggie McKenzie, head coach Brian Callahan, offensive coordinator Nick Holz, and quarterbacks coach Bo Hardegree.

Tennessee’s interest in Ward was evident even before the workout. The team took him to dinner on Sunday night, setting the stage for his 45-minute throwing session the following day.

Unlike at the NFL Scouting Combine last month, where he opted not to throw, Ward finally had a chance to showcase his arm in front of key decision-makers.

“They finally got to see me throw in person. That should be all they need to see,” Ward said. “At the end of the day, if they want to give me the pick or not, I’m going to be happy with whatever team I go to. I just want to play football.”

As the heavy favorite to go No. 1 overall, Ward is looking to join a club of Miami Hurricanes taken with the top selection – quarterback Vinny Testaverde in 1987 and defensive lineman Russell Maryland in 1991.

Throughout the session, Ward engaged in conversations with Titans staff both between throws and after the workout. His selection by Tennessee appears more and more inevitable.

“I’m just excited to see where I’m going to end up, so I can finally learn the playbook,” Ward maturely added.

While the reviews from Ward’s Pro Day performance have been overwhelmingly positive, there are some fans who feel he might be a little too overconfident.

There were reports a few weeks ago that Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders could see his draft stock drop based on his perceived “arrogant” attitude.

To be fair, Ward’s supreme confidence is a mandatory trait for most teams in the league. After all, if you don’t believe in yourself, how can you expect anyone else to?

However, there are some who haven’t forgotten about how Ward handled things during his season-ending bowl game where he took himself out and ended up costing the Hurricanes the game.

Having said that, how do you think the Titans feel about everything? … At the end of the day, is it a foregone conclusion that Ward goes to Tennessee???
