Over the past few weeks, BYU football has been bustling with energy as it hosted a multitude of players for its Summer camps. Among the array of talent on display, a few standout prospects caught the eye of BYU’s coaching staff, earning coveted offers for their standout performances. On Wednesday, two rising stars, who also happen to be high school teammates, received offers from the Cougars.
Jemar Howard Jr. – QB
Let’s talk about Jemar Howard Jr., a quarterback from the class of 2028 who’s generating quite the buzz on the recruiting trail. Howard is shaping up to be a national name, having already attracted attention from nine different programs, including big names like Oregon, Utah, and Miami. With a commanding presence at 6’2″ and 205 pounds, coupled with a cannon for an arm, Howard is the real deal. Hailing from Fresno, California, he has certainly left an impression on every coaching staff he’s encountered this summer — BYU included. A quick look at his social media highlights reveals why he’s the talk of the town.
His gratitude towards BYU was evident in his tweets after a successful camp experience, expressing his eagerness to return for a game in the fall. This wasn’t his first time on campus, having visited unofficially back in May, which only underscores his burgeoning relationship with the program.
Relando Jefferson IV – WR
Teaming up with Howard, Relando Jefferson IV is another gem from California catching eyes. As a wide receiver in the 2027 class, Jefferson is beginning to carve out his path with offers from Arizona, Fresno State, and Colorado State, among others. BYU’s Fesi Sitake was evidently impressed after seeing him up close and extended an offer following his camp performance.
Jefferson exudes potential, with the raw talent to see his recruitment elevate significantly in the coming year. He’s got a smooth blend of body control, reliable hands, the knack for grabbing the ball at its highest point, and the kind of speed that keeps defenders on their heels. It’s no stretch to anticipate that his offer list will grow considerably as he heads into his official visit phase.
As the summer camp season winds down, BYU now shifts focus to its official visits. This weekend marks the beginning of a crucial period for the Cougars as they welcome their first group of official visitors, with an even larger contingent set to arrive the following weekend. The groundwork laid during these visits will be instrumental in shaping the future of BYU’s recruiting class.
