The Auburn Tigers are closing the 2024 season with a spark, following a dramatic 43-41 victory over Texas A&M in quadruple overtime.
The win not only celebrated Auburn’s senior players but also injected optimism into the program as it aims to build a competitive SEC contender under head coach Hugh Freeze.
As if the victory over the playoff-hopeful Aggies wasn’t sweet enough, On3’s Steve Wiltfong has predicted that five-star cornerback Na’eem Offord will soon flip his commitment from Ohio State to Auburn.
Offord, a consensus top prospect and Alabama native, initially committed to the Buckeyes in February but may soon choose to stay closer to home.
If Offord joins Auburn, he would likely team up with another highly touted cornerback recruit, Blake Woodby, forming a formidable duo.
Despite the recent victory over Texas A&M, Auburn’s season is far from over.
The Tigers improved to 5-6 with the upset win and need just one more victory to become bowl eligible.
Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on how you look at it), that victory will need to come against archrival Alabama in the Iron Bowl.
The Crimson Tide, fresh off an embarrassing loss to Oklahoma, will be desperate to stay alive in the College Football Playoff hunt. (Although they’ll need a whole lot of help.)
To pull off the upset, Auburn plans to lean heavily on its ground game. Running back Jarquez Hunter, a standout performer all season, is expected to play a pivotal role.
The Tigers will also look to exploit opportunities in the passing game with playmakers Cam Coleman and KeAndre Lambert-Smith.
While Alabama’s secondary is talented, its youth could leave room for big plays.
As we know, the trash-talking is well underway.
Auburn freshman linebacker Demarcus Riddick tried his best to stir the pot, stating, “I will not lose to Bama while I’m here.”
He then made the ridiculous claim that phenom wide receiver Ryan Williams “ain’t no big-time player to me.”
Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe made it clear that he was not going to take any bait from the Tigers.
“I don’t even know who that is. But, I mean, let them talk. It’s a part of it,” he said.
Regardless of the Iron Bowl outcome, Auburn’s trajectory under Freeze appears promising.
With a revitalized offense, renewed recruiting efforts, and a roster that’s beginning to gel, the Tigers are positioning themselves as a team to watch in 2025.
What are your thoughts on the state of Auburn’s program as we head into the Iron Bowl?
Do you give the Tigers any chance at pulling off the upset on Saturday???
