All The BEST Reaction To The Shocking Bill Belichick News

It actually happened … The North Carolina Tar Heels have hired 72-year-old NFL legend Bill Belichick as their new head coach.

While the vast majority of the football world is shocked by the news, it had become apparent over the past few days that Belichick’s interest in the job was indeed genuine.

Miraculously, NFL teams didn’t show much interest in Belichick.

While that likely would have changed had he waited until the end of the regular season, Belichick felt this UNC opportunity was just too good to pass up.

“The sense from NFL owners meetings is that Bill Belichick simply hadn’t garnered much NFL interest if at all this cycle. Perhaps that would have changed, but Belichick goes with the sure thing – and a fascinating new start,” Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reported.

Many had assumed that Belichick was going to land back in the NFL world, especially since he is so close to the all-time wins record.

However, he submitted a “400 page bible” to the powers that be at UNC which made his terms and demands clear.

According to reports, if North Carolina didn’t agree, he was ready to move on. (And UNC would have then hired Tommy Rees instead.)

But after significant discussion, the school agreed and offered Belichick the job … Incredible.

Belichick has already gotten to work and has hired longtime friend and former NFL executive Michael Lombardi as the new general manager of the football program. (A role that you’re going to see a lot of programs implement.)

According to reports, Belichick’s son, Steve, will not only be joining his staff at UNC, but will also be the head coach in-waiting.

There will be plenty of more details to come from this wild story – but it goes without saying that the shocking news sent the football world into an absolute frenzy on social media…
