In a surprising move, longtime Major League Baseball pitcher Lance Lynn announced his decision to officially retire.
Known for his dominating presence on the mound, Lynn’s announcement came in an unusually calm tone during an appearance on a podcast hosted by his wife, Dymin Lynn.
His soft-spoken declaration, despite his intimidating stature, left many pondering the reasons behind his retirement.
Rather than taking the stage at a formal press conference, the 37-year-old right-hander made his retirement public in a laid-back manner.
Speaking to listeners on “Dymin in the Rough,” a podcast hosted by his wife, Lynn simply shared the news that his playing days were over.
“Baseball season is upon us, and I’m right here on the couch. And that is where I’m gonna stay,” he comfortably stated.
Lynn’s career has spanned an impressive 13 seasons in Major League Baseball, beginning with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2011.
He was a key member of the Cardinals’ 2011 World Series-winning team and has since played for various teams, including the Minnesota Twins, New York Yankees, Chicago White Sox, and Los Angeles Dodgers.
He ended his playing career back with the Cardinals in 2024.
The veteran pitcher earned two All-Star selections and received votes for the Cy Young Award in three separate seasons.
In his final year with the Cardinals, Lynn made 23 starts, finishing with a 7-4 record and a solid 3.84 ERA.
However, following a stint as a free agent, Lynn revealed that the offers he received did not meet his expectations.
Instead of continuing his playing career, he decided to retire on his own terms and seems more than happy with his decision.
Over his career, Lynn compiled a solid record of 143-99, posting an ERA of 3.74 while striking out 2,015 batters.
Known for his consistency, he rarely posted an ERA higher than 4.00, a testament to his durability and skill as a starting pitcher.
Lynn’s 2019 season with the Texas Rangers earned him a fifth-place finish in the American League Cy Young voting, and in 2021, he improved upon that with a third-place finish while pitching for the Chicago White Sox.
Though Lynn played for several teams, his performance remained elite throughout his career.
Despite his retirement from Major League Baseball, Lynn left the door open for future endeavors.
