MINNEAPOLIS — Former Vikings superstar Adrian Peterson finds himself facing yet another significant challenge after being arrested early Friday morning on charges of driving while intoxicated.
According to records from Hennepin County, the 40-year-old Peterson was taken into custody for fourth-degree DWI and booked at 5:15 a.m. Fortunately for him, he was released just over two hours later, around 7:30 a.m. The Minnesota State Patrol reported that a trooper initiated the stop after clocking Peterson’s Audi Q5 speeding at 83 mph in a 55 mph zone, around 3:20 a.m. on southbound Highway 77 near 66th Street in Richfield.
Peterson has since been released on a $4,000 bond. He’s set to appear in court again on May 9, where the next chapter of this legal saga will unfold.
This is just the latest entry in a troubling series of legal issues for the former MVP. Peterson has previously faced significant charges, including felony child abuse back in 2014 stemming from his disciplinary methods with his children. More recently, he has navigated various court proceedings related to unpaid child support and disputes over failing to turn over assets to settle a considerable debt reportedly amounting to $12 million.
Drafted by the Vikings in 2007 out of Oklahoma, Peterson quickly emerged as a cornerstone of the franchise, playing a significant role over a decade in Minnesota. Though he was released due to salary cap constraints, Peterson spent subsequent years competing with several teams, including stints with New Orleans, Arizona, Washington, Detroit, Tennessee, and Seattle, showcasing his remarkable resilience and talent throughout his storied career.
