Aaron Judge Tells Juan Soto Winning’s More Important Than Money

Aaron Judge has broken his silence on Juan Soto’s blockbuster decision to leave the Yankees for the crosstown-rival Mets, a move that sent shockwaves through Major League Baseball.

After a season in which Judge and Soto helped power the Yankees to a World Series appearance, the star outfielder tested free agency and landed a historic deal – 15 years, $765 million – with the Mets.

Speaking at Yankees spring training down in Tampa, Judge didn’t shy away from acknowledging the magnitude of Soto’s contract.

“He got a pretty nice deal over there,” Judge said. “You can’t say no to that.”

However, when asked about Soto’s belief that the Mets present a better championship opportunity, Judge’s demeanor shifted noticeably.

“That’s his opinion, he can say what he wants … I definitely disagree with him,” Judge bluntly said.

Despite their paths diverging, Judge made it clear there’s no animosity toward his former teammate.

Interestingly, Judge admitted he expected the move. “I wasn’t too surprised by it,” he said.

“I think that is where he wanted to be. I think that is what’s best for him and his family. I’m happy for him. He’s going to be in a great spot,” Judge continued.

“It’s going to be great having him in town, we are going to be battling back and forth for quite a few years. I’m definitely happy for him.”

With Soto gone, the Yankees’ lineup faces a significant adjustment. One possibility is Judge shifting from his preferred No. 3 spot to the No. 2 hole.

“I’d love to hit third again, I’ve told [manager Aaron Boone] that since the first day, but I’ve always been about wherever you need me,” Judge said.

“Hitting second, hitting last, I’ll be anywhere that shapes this lineup the way we need to.”

New York has been aggressive in reloading its roster, bringing in major additions like Paul Goldschmidt, Cody Bellinger, and pitchers Max Fried and Devin Williams.

Meanwhile, young outfielder Jasson Domínguez is expected to play a key role in 2025 after recovering from injury.

“I’m excited to watch Jasson Domínguez have a full, healthy year,” Judge said, speaking for the entire Bombers fan base.

However, one lingering concern is the health of Giancarlo Stanton, who continues to deal with persistent pain from tennis elbow.

His status for Opening Day remains uncertain and is most likely in doubt. While Stanton was phenomenal last October, the fact of the matter is he just can’t stay healthy.

The Yankees will open their 2025 season on March 27 at home against the Milwaukee Brewers. And with Soto now wearing Mets blue and orange, a new chapter in the New York baseball rivalry is just beginning.

We know how classy of a person Aaron Judge is. While there’s undoubtedly a mutual respect between he and Soto, it’s clear there’s a difference of opinion over which New York team is better suited to win championships.

What are your thoughts on the two teams going forward???
