In the midst of swirling rumors about a possible split between Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots, speculations are growing louder, with former Patriots quarterback Scott Zolak suggesting the Dallas Cowboys as a potential landing spot for the legendary coach.
No official decision will be made on Belichick until after the season and it seems like there are new reports and speculations each and every day.
However, Zolak is just about as well connected as anyone when it comes to the Patriots. Besides being their former quarterback, he serves as the team’s color analyst on radio and hosts an extremely popular talk show on 98.5 The Sports Hub.
In other words, him saying that the Cowboys are looked upon as the favorites to land Belichick carries much more weight than the average Joe saying it.
“I’m just saying, well, if everybody assumes it. Everybody I talk to assumes it,” Zolak remarked during the radio show, highlighting the prevalent speculation surrounding Belichick’s potential move.

Zolak clarified his position, stating, “I don’t know nothing. Nothing would really shock me. If he comes back, that wouldn’t shock me. That would be you’re getting a clearance in your scouting department, in your front office. That’s getting cleaned out, if he comes back there’s a reason he’s back.”
The bad Cowboys loss today puts them right in the mix for Belichick next season. If they don’t reach the Conference Championship Game I definitely see Jerry Jones making a play for Bill.

The former Patriots quarterback pointed to the recent struggles of the Dallas Cowboys, particularly their loss to the Buffalo Bills, as a potential catalyst for a coaching change.
Zolak suggested that the Cowboys “swoon” might make parting ways with current head coach Mike McCarthy a more feasible option – especially if they face yet another early playoff exit.
“To me, it’s starting to shape up Dallas. You see the Dallas swoon starting to begin,” Zolak noted. “They got their asses kicked by Buffalo … Buffalo did what they wanted with them. You line it up and you look at them, they got a big offensive line, good running back, marquee quarterback. You got good receivers. You got good cover guys. You got Lawrence Taylor Jr. in #11 (Micah Parsons). You got a big defensive line and good safeties.”
And yet it wasn’t nearly enough for a Dallas team that continues to play soft when facing legitimate opponents on the road.

Zolak added that Belichick’s pregame interaction with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and executive Stephen Jones could be indicative of a potential connection.
“It’s turnkey for Bill,” Zolak continued. “And he went right over in pregame and shook the hands of Jerry Jones and Stephen Jones.”
You get the feeling that Jones is almost looking for a reason to kick McCarthy to the curb and hire Belichick.
Anything less than a Super Bowl title would probably do the trick.
What do you think will end up happening with Belichick?
Do you think Jones and the Cowboys are indeed the favorites to land him???
