The 2025 MLB season has presented a tough road for Cleveland Guardians outfielder Jhonkensy Noel. With a hitting line hovering at .146/.170/.229, including just two home runs and nine RBIs over 100 plate appearances, it’s clear he’ll need to find his footing soon. His recent outing, where he went 0-for-2 with two strikeouts in a close 3-2 loss to the New York Yankees, highlights the struggles that have characterized his season thus far.

One factor complicating Noel’s chances to regain his rhythm is his lack of consistent playing time. Guardians president Chris Antonetti acknowledged this challenge, stating, “There are things with Jhonkensy in particular with his swing that he could benefit from just more regular playing time. But that’s really hard to do at the major league level because we’re trying to win each night and figure out what the best matchups are for us to win on any given day.” This insight stresses the balancing act that comes with managing a roster while striving for immediate success.

Noel has been sharing time in right field with newly acquired Nolan Jones, who has managed to accumulate 159 plate appearances so far this season. Adding to the mix is the return of utility man David Fry, a 2024 All-Star, which puts even more pressure on the designated hitter slot and limits opportunities for Noel to find his groove.

Given his current struggles, a stretch at Triple-A may be what Noel needs to reset and recalibrate. His season has been marred by issues, evidenced by a concerning 32 percent strikeout rate.

Looking back at the previous year, Noel showed flashes of potential, hitting 13 home runs across 198 plate appearances, and boasting a respectable .774 OPS. However, despite his home-run capability, he also faced challenges at the plate, with a .288 on-base percentage and 63 strikeouts.

For Noel, the path back to form will require not only game experience but also the opportunity to address the inconsistencies that have crept into his swing. It’s a pivotal moment for the young outfielder, and as the Guardians continue to navigate their season, the hope is that Noel can tap into his vast potential before it’s too late.
