Jayson Tatum Injury: The Most Recent News

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Boston Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla delivered an optimistic update regarding superstar Jayson Tatum, who left Monday’s contest against the Sacramento Kings in the third quarter due to a left ankle injury sustained from a hard foul.

Tatum was having a standout night, leading his team in scoring, when the incident occurred. After draining a contested three-pointer, he was fouled by Kings center Domantas Sabonis, who was called for a Flagrant 1 foul. The play was a tough one; as Tatum landed, his right foot came down on Sabonis’ foot, sending him tumbling to the floor.

“He seems to be doing OK,” Mazzulla shared post-game. “I didn’t see the play, but they made the right call. We were fortunate he was able to shoot the free throws. (He’s) taking care of it right now.”

Tatum remained on the ground for a few moments while the Celtics’ training staff attended to him. With some assistance, he was able to make his way to the bench. Tatum then returned to the court to attempt the free throws, converting one to extend Boston’s lead to 79-68 with just over three minutes left in the third quarter. However, he ultimately exited the game for the locker room shortly thereafter. The Celtics went on to secure a decisive 113-95 victory.

As Tatum made his way through the locker room after the game, he appeared to be moving with some discomfort but offered a reassuring “OK” when Mazzulla inquired about his condition. Mazzulla highlighted Tatum’s dedication to his recovery, stating, “He’ll do anything and everything to make sure he gets better.”

With Tatum’s scoring prowess and all-around skills, his health will undoubtedly be a key focus for the Celtics as they navigate the season ahead.
