Raiders quarterback Derek Carr is expected to be released today – a move that has to be done by 4pm EST before his $40 million contract becomes guaranteed.
He will then be free to sign anywhere.
Carr has refused to waive his no-trade clause, ensuring that Vegas wouldn’t receive compensation for him – just another indication of how nasty things have gotten between the two sides.
According to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, Carr is expected to be in high demand as a free agent.
Rapoport named four teams in particular that will be heavy on the Carr chase – New Orleans, Carolina, Tennessee and the New York Jets.
Carr does have one significant advantage over other impending free agents – They all have to wait until March 13th to negotiate with teams, whereas Carr is free to immediately…
He’s still going to a saints, as a raiders fan, I am happy that he won’t accept a trade because the office treated him so horrible. Losing the picks sucks but still

To be fair, this makes complete sense. Carr can still go there and not take picks away from the team he’s joining and building with. Raiders don’t get picks but they get millions to use towards his replacement.

Interestingly, the Jets just hired Todd Downing who has very close ties to Carr from their Raider days together.
The Jets are expected to aggressively pursue Carr – and having Downing on staff certainly won’t hurt their chances…
Downing was the Raiders’ QB coach 2015-2016 and OC in 2017. Has a big time connection to Derek Carr. Jets already a team to watch in competition with the #Saints to land his services, now more-so. https://t.co/a29p67jAET

Carr would be a great QB in NY. Just make sure it's nice and sunny outside and don't let the media ask him tough questions and if they do…have some Kleenex ready. Get used to "It's on me" quotes after every game. As a bonus..he loves everyone….until you hold him accountable. pic.twitter.com/gO3VdF5JKM

Regardless, it will be very strange not to see Carr in the Silver & Black.
Some fans will miss him. Some won’t…

There's a third group.
People who wanted to see compensation for Carr, in order to use those picks to strengthen a run at the QB of the future.
As it is, the front office is giving away a "franchise QB" for some team for no comp. Mismanagement at the highest level, IMO.

Carr looked great in one season, one. Lead his team to the playoffs twice. He also got 2 big contracts, what did the Raiders get? I want greatness not mediocrity. A great QB elevates the team around them.
