The Mets are officially a dumpster fire. Steve Cohen’s greed has reached a new low, and now the beloved Pete Alonso is likely out the door. This is a franchise that was supposed to be different, a team that was finally going to spend money and bring a championship to Queens. But Cohen’s cheapness has reared its ugly head, and now the Mets are back to being the same old losers.
Alonso is the heart and soul of this team. He’s a fan favorite, a homegrown star, and a legitimate MVP candidate. But Cohen is apparently more concerned with saving a few bucks than keeping the best player on the roster. This is a disgrace, and it’s going to cost the Mets dearly.
Cohen’s comments about the negotiations were insulting. He essentially called Alonso greedy and unreasonable, when in reality, Alonso is just trying to get what he’s worth. Cohen is a billionaire who can afford to pay Alonso whatever he wants, but he’d rather nickel and dime his star player and risk losing him for nothing.
This is a dark day for Mets fans. The team is officially back to being a laughingstock, and Cohen is the one to blame. He’s proven that he’s not serious about winning, and he’s willing to sacrifice the team’s future to save a few bucks. Shame on him.
