Chicago White Sox owner Jerry Reinsdorf admitted that the organization is “extremely unhappy” with the team’s disastrous 2024 season, a sentiment that does little to ease the frustration of the fanbase as the team approaches a historically bad finish.
Amazingly, the White Sox sit firmly in the basement of the baseball world with an incredibly painful 33-114 record.
It may seem like a typo, but Chicago is 51 GAMES behind the Cleveland Guardians in the American League Central. (And no one will ever confuse the 2024 Cleveland Guardians with the 1927 New York Yankees.)
The White Sox are on pace to lose 126 games, which would eclipse the modern Major League Baseball record of 120 losses set by the 1962 New York Mets.
“Everyone in this organization is extremely unhappy with the results of this season, that goes without saying,” Reinsdorf said in a statement to several media outlets. “This year has been very painful for all, especially our fans. We did not arrive here overnight, and solutions won’t happen overnight either.”
In a season marked by turmoil, the White Sox made a managerial change mid-season, firing Pedro Grifol and appointing Grady Sizemore as interim manager.
However, Sizemore has struggled to turn things around. (Not that anyone realistically expected him to.)
“Going back to last year, we have made difficult decisions and changes to begin building a foundation for future success,” Reinsdorf continued. “What has impressed me is how our players and staff have continued to work and bring a professional attitude to the ballpark each day despite a historically difficult season.
“No one is happy with the results, but I commend the continued effort.”
The White Sox need to go 9-6 over their final 15 games to avoid surpassing the Mets’ infamous record for most losses in a modern baseball season.
Their remaining schedule includes series against the Athletics, Angels (twice), Padres, and Tigers.
Fans at Guaranteed Rate Field have made their displeasure known throughout the season, with frustration reaching a peak as the White Sox tied their home loss record earlier in the season.
Despite recent struggles, including three straight losses, Chicago managed to win a game against the Red Sox last Sunday, providing a rare bright spot in an otherwise nightmare season.
Reinsdorf promised further statements once the season concludes, signaling that more changes may be on the horizon as the organization looks to rebuild from one of the worst seasons in its history.

Where do you think the 2024 White Sox rank among the worst teams in baseball history?
Assuming they stumble to the finish line, do you view them as the worst team to ever take a Major League Baseball field???
