Will Rogers Withdraws From Transfer Portal, Chooses To Remain At Washington

Former Mississippi State quarterback Will Rogers has decided to withdraw from the NCAA transfer portal and return to Washington to play for the Huskies in the 2024 season, as he informed head coach Jedd Fisch. Rogers, who entered the portal after a coaching change at Washington, has resumed taking classes at the university.

Rogers transferred from Mississippi State to Washington after an impressive four seasons with the Bulldogs, where he became the SEC’s second all-time leading passer. He considered offers from multiple schools after entering the transfer portal but ultimately chose to stay at Washington due to the team’s performance and the coaching staff.

“Some of the guys at Washington,” Rogers explained, “The team went 14-1 last year. If we can pick up where we left off, obviously it’s going to be a tough task. But I think it’s why you come to Washington.”

Rogers also cited Coach Fisch’s NFL experience as a key factor in his decision. Fisch, who is Washington’s offensive playcaller, has worked in the NFL as an offensive coordinator and quarterback coach.

Rogers has high hopes for the upcoming season and sees it as a bridge year to help him reach the NFL. He shared, “Coach Fisch told me today, ‘I want to treat you like a professional football player.’ I told him that’s what I want, and that’s what I’m looking to do.”

This decision brings positive news to the Washington quarterback room, and Rogers is expected to be the favorite to start in the 2024 season. With several departures from the program, including other quarterbacks, Rogers’ return bolsters Washington’s lineup.

Rogers’ impressive college career includes 12,315 passing yards during his time at Mississippi State, making him one of the most accomplished players in the transfer portal this winter. He holds records for the most completions in SEC history and is ranked No. 39 in career passing yards in the NCAA. Another strong season at Washington could solidify his place in college football history.

Rogers is enthusiastic about learning from a coach with NFL experience and preparing for the next level. He stated, “I’m really excited to play under someone who has NFL experience and can teach you the dos and don’ts and get you ready for the next level.”
