Former Super Bowl champion quarterback Trent Dilfer is in his first season as head coach of UAB.
Coming off a dominant tenure coaching at the high school level in Tennessee, Dilfer isn’t used to losing, which is why the Blazers 1-4 record must be getting to him.
During this past Saturday’s game against Tulane, UAB was trailing 28-20 when they were called for an illegal substitution, resulting in an automatic first down for Tulane on fourth-and-2 in their own territory.
Broadcast cameras captured Dilfer berating a couple of his assistant coaches for the sloppy mistake.
Tulane ultimately failed to capitalize on the gifted first down, but they managed to eat up valuable game time, eventually securing a 35-23 victory.
Video footage of Dilfer’s emotional outburst went viral on social media…

This is not the first time Dilfer has made headlines for his sideline encounters. In 2021, while coaching at Lipscomb Academy in Nashville, Tennessee, Dilfer was captured on video grabbing a player by his shoulder pads and pushing him down the sideline while shouting at him.
The player’s reaction, throwing his helmet in frustration, added to the controversy.
Dilfer later issued a statement addressing the 2021 incident, saying: “During a moment of frustration and in an attempt to get our team to play with more discipline, I unfairly singled Beau out.”
“Somehow Beau Dawson has been portrayed publicly as the culprit in this situation, when in reality, I should have been a better leader and shown great wisdom and discernment in how I handled this incident.”
“Overall, I could not be more proud of Beau and the rest of our team for how they handled the emotional nature of each game they compete in.”
What do you think of Dilfer’s latest outburst???
