One of the most interesting stories for baseball fans over the past week had nothing to do with anything that happened on the field.
In a recent matchup between the St. Louis Cardinals and Colorado Rockies, longtime broadcaster Chip Caray took center stage with a hilarious comment he made.
While reading an advertisement for “SeatGeek,” Caray couldn’t help but reference a fan who was being shown during the Cardinals broadcast.
“SeatGeek, the official ticket marketplace of the St. Louis Cardinals … Who knows? Maybe you’ll get to sit next to her,” Caray said, referencing the mystery fan who the camera was set on.
Needless to say, the clip quickly went viral on social media.
Many fans were left wondering who the fan was and if the whole thing could have possibly been a set-up.
Unsurprisingly, eagle-eyed investigators were able to track down the identity of the fan.
The fan, known as Kailee, has now gained considerable attention.
Kailee is a die-hard St. Louis Cardinals fan and posted a message on social media expressing her loyalty for the club despite suffering the tough loss to the Rockies.
“Didn’t bring home the dub but still love our Cards,” she posted on Instagram.
Like I said, the clip went absolutely viral on social media and produced some pretty hilarious responses…
“Grandpa would be proud.”
“I mean this respectfully… I need that empty seat.”
“Seat Geek would be GENIUS if part of their marketing.”
“Chip Carey channeling his inner Brent Musburger…”
“For a moment, I thought she was going to channel that Oilers fan’s vibe.”
“‘Who knows maybe you’ll get to sit next to her’ Chip is hilarious.”
As for Kailee’s team, the Cardinals are trying to keep their heads above water.
They currently stand at 31-33, good for second place in the National League Central.
With nearly four months remaining in the regular season, St. Louis is hoping to stay alive for at least a Wild Card berth.
