Vols Secure Commitment From 2025’s No. 2 Quarterback Prospect, George MacIntyre

In a significant recruiting triumph, Tennessee secured the commitment of four-star quarterback George MacIntyre, solidifying their standing on the national recruiting scene. MacIntyre, considered the ninth-best prospect nationally and the second-best quarterback in the class of 2025 according to 247Sports, made his choice official during a ceremony at Brentwood Academy, a prestigious institution near Nashville. His decision favored the Volunteers over strong competition from SEC powerhouses such as Alabama and LSU.

While LSU had already secured their quarterback needs with the addition of Bryce Underwood, the top-ranked player in the 2025 class, Alabama and Tennessee engaged in a fierce battle for MacIntyre’s talents. MacIntyre had taken several unofficial visits to both schools during the fall, and he became one of the first prospects to receive a re-offer from Alabama’s new head coach, Kalen DeBoer, following Nick Saban’s retirement.

Ultimately, MacIntyre’s heart led him back to Knoxville, where the allure of representing his home state prevailed. Speaking to 247Sports, he shared his perspective, saying, “Just being an in-state kid, I can definitely see the buzz at Tennessee. When they’re good, their fanbase is crazy. And things are going. I think Coach Heupel has done a really good job since he got there. Growing up in Tennessee, they’ve always been in a drought, so it’s good to see him get them out of it.”

With MacIntyre’s commitment, he becomes the sixth prized addition to Tennessee’s 2025 recruiting class. This addition propels the Volunteers to an impressive 10th place in 247Sports’ Team Composite Rankings. Tennessee has already begun surrounding MacIntyre with potential future weapons, including four-star tight end Jack Van Dorselaer, a Top247 prospect from Texas, who committed in January. Additionally, the team has secured commitments from three three-star cornerbacks from Milton High School in Georgia.

A Rich Football Legacy
MacIntyre’s football prowess and recruiting success come as no surprise given his family’s deep connection to the sport. His grandfather, George, was a quarterback at Miami before embarking on a coaching career, mainly in Tennessee. His uncle, Mike MacIntyre, played as a defensive back at Vanderbilt and Georgia Tech and currently serves as the head coach at Florida International.

Tennessee’s Impressive Quarterback Pipeline
Tennessee has consistently excelled in recruiting quarterbacks in recent years, solidifying their reputation as a destination for top-tier talent. MacIntyre follows in the footsteps of Nico Iamaleava, the second-ranked prospect nationally and second-best quarterback in 2023, who currently leads the Vols and is expected to start in 2024. Iamaleava’s remarkable performance in Tennessee’s Citrus Bowl victory against Iowa only enhanced his status as he was named the game’s MVP.

Moreover, in 2024, the Vols added four-star quarterback Jake Merklinger from Calvary Day School in Georgia. Ranked as the 13th-best signal caller in his class, Merklinger’s impressive senior season saw him throw 38 touchdowns with just two interceptions. He now has the opportunity to learn and develop behind Iamaleava before potentially competing with George MacIntyre for the starting position in 2026, promising a bright future for Tennessee’s quarterback corps.
