Veteran MLB Manager Suggests He’s Considering Retirement

Legendary manager Terry Francona hinted at retirement during a talk with reporters on Tuesday, acknowledging ongoing health concerns.

Facing multiple health challenges recently, Francona is contemplating if this could be his curtain call season. “Over the past couple of months, I’ve been evaluating my situation extensively. Sometimes, I’m not too content with the conclusions,” he shared, as quoted by Guardians’ reporter Jeff Schudel.

Reflecting on his physical condition, Francona confessed he feels “worn out” and might conclude his baseball journey post the 2023 season.

Francona’s health has been a significant concern in recent years. He confronted gastrointestinal problems and a severe blood-clotting issue in 2020, which led to ICU admission. The following year, he momentarily paused his career with the Guardians to undergo multiple surgeries.

Though he returned with full energy for the 2022 season, the 2023 season witnessed him being hospitalized after an episode of dizziness during a match.

With an illustrious career that boasts two World Series victories, a trip to the World Series with the Guardians, and thrice being named manager of the year, Francona has solidified his legacy in baseball.
