USA Today Analyst Suggests Dodgers Could Make Another Major Move This Offseason

The Los Angeles Dodgers have made headlines this offseason by committing over $1 billion to bolster their roster, and it appears they are not done yet. While they have made significant acquisitions, there are still gaps to fill, and one name that has emerged as a potential target is free-agent closer Josh Hader. Hader, known for his dominant pitching, is reportedly seeking a record-setting reliever contract, aiming to surpass the five-year, $102 million deal signed by Edwin Diaz with the New York Mets last season.

So far, no team has met Hader’s lofty asking price, which has led to speculation that he could eventually become a Dodger. Bob Nightengale of USA Today believes that if Hader remains unsigned in the coming month and is open to a deal below his initial demands, the Dodgers could seize the opportunity to sign him.

Nightengale’s insight suggests that the Dodgers view Hader as a valuable addition to their bullpen. With his exceptional pitching abilities, Hader could assume the role of the team’s traditional 9th-inning closer, a position they’ve been missing since Kenley Jansen’s departure. Such a move would also free up reliever Evan Phillips to return to a more flexible “fireman” role, where he has excelled.

While the Dodgers already boast a strong bullpen, adding a talent like Hader would be a luxury that could make them even more formidable in late-game situations. Although they are not in desperate need of Hader, the Dodgers are committed to an all-out pursuit of championships in the coming seasons, and his acquisition could further solidify their championship aspirations.
