Urban Meyer’s name is a perennial presence in discussions about marquee college football coaching jobs. When Nick Saban announced his retirement from Alabama football, Meyer’s name quickly surfaced as a potential candidate, as it often does in such circumstances. However, there is currently no indication that Meyer is being targeted for the Crimson Tide job.

Urban Meyer to Bama? I’m just thinking out loud.

During a speaking engagement at the Knoxville Quarterback Club in October, Meyer was asked about the possibility of returning to coaching, to which he responded that he has “no desire” to reenter the coaching field. He emphasized that he had not taken a break during his coaching career and had even faced health challenges and addiction to sleeping pills due to his intense work ethic. As a result, Meyer firmly expressed his lack of interest in coaching.
With Saban’s retirement, ESPN insider Pete Thamel mentioned several potential options for the Alabama head coaching position. These options include Dan Lanning, Kalen DeBoer, Dabo Swinney, James Franklin, Mike Norvell, and Marcus Freeman. While Meyer’s name often comes up in coaching vacancies, it seems that, for now, he may not be in the running for the coveted Alabama job.
