“They Love Me This Week & Hate Me The Next”: C.J. Stroud Opens Up About MVP Love

Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud is having one of the best seasons of any player in the league.

The #2 pick from this year’s draft has not only lived up to the hype but has exceeded it. He leads the league in yards per game (291.8) and has the fewest interceptions (two). He also ranks third in yards per attempt (8.3) and sixth in passer rating (101.0).

At 5-4, Stroud has the Texans in serious playoff contention. With a favorable schedule ahead, there’s growing optimism that he could indeed guide Houston to the postseason for the first time since 2019.

Acknowledging the attention he’s receiving, Stroud expressed gratitude for the recognition.

“It’s cool to have people recognize some of the things that I’ve done or – as a team, we’ve done. I don’t think it’s just me, but it’s really cool to see,” he said.

He mentioned receiving support from veterans and fans on social media, emphasizing that he values the encouragement.

“Especially the vets who will reach out or say something on Twitter, and I have people who text me stuff [and] things like that, so I really appreciate that. It doesn’t go unnoticed,” he said.

Despite acknowledging that he enjoys the praise, Stroud knows that it’s vital to stay grounded while all the love circles around him.

“At the same time, I just want more. I want to do better. I want to be as complete as I can. This game is a process, and I know every week I have to bring it,” he said.

“I’m honest with myself, or at least I try to be … This game keeps you honest and it keeps you humble, you know?”

“It’s a humbling game and it makes you really, really look yourself in the mirror and see, ‘Did you prepare the right way? Did you do this the right way?’ Because everything will be tested on that Sunday.”

“The eye in the sky doesn’t lie,” Stroud concluded, emphasizing the importance of putting everything he has into preparing and executing on game day.
