Tate Rodemaker Withdraws From Orange Bowl; Florida State Turns To Brock Glenn

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — Florida State’s quarterback situation for the Orange Bowl against Georgia has taken an unexpected turn. It was announced on Monday that Tate Rodemaker, the starting quarterback, will not be able to play in the game, and Brock Glenn will take his place.

The news came shortly after reports from 247Sports and The Athletic indicated that Rodemaker is planning to enter the transfer portal, suggesting an uncertain future for the young quarterback.

Rodemaker had been actively participating in open practices leading up to the Christmas break, creating confusion around his sudden absence from the lineup.

The Seminoles, who have enjoyed a perfect 13-0 season, arrived in Fort Lauderdale on Christmas night to prepare for their showdown with the 12-1 Georgia Bulldogs. Coach Mike Norvell confirmed Glenn’s start as they landed in Florida.

Glenn has prior experience as he also started for Florida State in the ACC championship game. Coach Norvell expressed confidence in Glenn’s abilities, emphasizing the evolving landscape of college athletics and the opportunities it presents for young players like Glenn.

Rodemaker, a redshirt junior, stepped into the starting role when Jordan Travis was sidelined with an injury on November 18. He played a pivotal role in securing victories over North Alabama and Florida, completing 32 of 56 passes for 510 yards with five touchdowns and no interceptions during the 2023 season.

On the other hand, Glenn, who is also a redshirt junior, has seen limited action this season, completing 10 of 25 passes for 90 yards.

Additionally, the Seminoles have welcomed early enrollee Luke Kromenhoek to join the team for bowl practices. They have also hosted transfers Cam Ward from Washington State and DJ Uiagalelei from Oregon State during December, although neither quarterback has made a decision regarding their 2024 plans.

Florida State is facing other roster challenges for the bowl game, as running back Trey Benson, wide receiver Johnny Wilson, and defensive end Jared Verse have declared for the NFL draft and opted out. Tight end Jaheim Bell and defensive tackle Fabien Lovett are entering the draft but have not confirmed their participation in the bowl game.

Despite these changes, Coach Norvell remains focused on the players present and their dedication to the team. Florida State’s bowl game preparations continue as they prepare to face Georgia, who is scheduled to arrive in South Florida on Tuesday afternoon.
