A soon-to-be released biography about NFL star Aaron Rodgers reveals that his parents, Ed and Darla Rodgers, believed actress Olivia Munn played a central role in their son’s estrangement from them.
The tension reportedly began in 2014 when Munn, who dated Rodgers from 2014 to 2017, entered the picture, according to Ian O’Connor’s book, “Out of the Darkness: The Mystery of Aaron Rodgers.”
Ed and Darla Rodgers reportedly saw Munn as the main reason for the breakdown in their relationship with Aaron, which lasted for nine years.
Darla, a devout Christian, was particularly troubled by Munn’s open discussions about her and Rodgers’s sex life, especially her comments about abstaining from sex on game days and her candid jokes about intimacy.
“Given her devout religious views, Aaron’s mother disapproved of premarital sex and was opposed to her middle child sharing a hotel room with his girlfriend even as an NFL player,” O’Connor wrote in the book.
Munn’s remarks during a 2014 appearance on “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen,” where she spoke about her sexual relationship with Rodgers, are said to have deeply upset Darla.
“Darla did not appreciate how Munn joked about oral sex in an interview or how she publicly talked about her sex life with Aaron just before that loss at Buffalo,” O’Connor added.
Munn was asked if the two have sex on game days, to which she replied: “No, we don’t. Not on game days. There’s not a rule, but it just doesn’t happen because there are other things to focus on.”
Munn added that they occasionally have sex after games, saying: “It depends on how late the game is … I try to have sex as much as I can.”
Tensions between Munn and Rodgers’s parents escalated after a confrontation in 2014, when Munn reportedly discouraged Ed and Darla from seeing their son after a game in Tampa, despite their long history of attending his games.
Munn “made clear she did not want [Rodgers’ parents] meeting them or attending the game,” O’Connor wrote.
Needless to say, Rodgers parents were caught off-guard and downright offended that Munn tried to keep them away. “Ed and Darla explained that they had been attending Aaron’s games since he was a kid and did not need her permission to continue to do so,” O’Connor added.
According to the book, Ed told Munn: “You haven’t been on the scene very long. You’re just his girlfriend. We’re his parents.”
Those alleged comments upset Rodgers who, according to O’Connor, wrote an email to his family, effectively stating: “Don’t attack the woman I love.”
After that incident, Rodgers allegedly began to isolate himself even farther from his family and wouldn’t speak to them for nine years.
According to the book, Munn further “insulted” Ed and Darla by sending back a Christmas gift they bought them.
Munn allegedly planted in Rodgers’ head that his family was trying to do “fame and fortune chasing through him.”
Rodgers stated that Munn had “nothing to do” with the fracture in his relationship with his family.
“I have questions about why they feel the need to talk about it, because it’s like a game of poker,” Rodgers said. “When you are holding all the cards, you don’t have to bluff. There’s nothing they can say other than make up stories but look at the facts.”
Rodgers and Munn broke up in 2017.
Three years later, Munn was accused of taking embarrassing shots at Rodgers during an interview where she was talking about faking orgasms with one of her unnamed ex-boyfriends.
“Swear to God I’m like I regret every time I have fake moaned because these guys are out there feeling so f*cking confident,” Munn said. “I have this one, in particular, that was just the worst, the worst at just having sex.
“In fact, he went down on me twice during the years we were together, and I asked him once and said: ‘Why don’t you ever go down, but by the way, I don’t want you to’,’ Munn added.
Munn ended up marrying comedian John Mulaney, who she shares a son with.
Meanwhile, Rodgers has dated multiple women, including actress Shailene Woodley and model Mallory Edens (whose father co-owns the Milwaukee Bucks).
It should be noted that the ice between Rodgers and his family seems to be melting. In fact, he shared an emotional moment with his father at a recent golf tournament in Lake Tahoe.
Rodgers was heading towards the bathroom when he spotted his father. Admitting to O’Connor that he considered turning around or pretending to be on his phone, he decided to man up.
“I could do a lot of things,” Rodgers told O’Connor. “But I just thought, ‘What’s best in this moment, and what kind of gift could I give him?’ Because I do love him. I don’t have animosity toward him, even with all the stuff that’s been said and done.”
“It had been so long since we even looked at each other,” Ed recalled of the moment. “I just kind of froze.”
Aaron ended up breaking the ice by saying “Hi Pops.”
“I love you,” he then told his father … “I love you too,” Ed replied.
