Seven Prominent Colleges Express Interest In Maalik Murphy As He Enters Transfer Portal From Texas

Numerous prominent colleges have emerged as potential destinations for Texas quarterback Maalik Murphy, who recently entered the transfer portal, attracting attention from various programs.

Murphy’s decision to enter the transfer portal naturally garnered significant interest, and ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported that seven schools have shown interest in recruiting the talented quarterback. These schools include Southern California (USC), South Carolina, Baylor, Georgia, Oregon State, Syracuse, and Duke.

While it’s still early in the process, these institutions have expressed interest in Murphy, and they represent a list of schools in need of a quarterback. USC, in particular, will be in search of a new quarterback with Caleb Williams departing for the NFL. The Blue Devils are also looking to fill the void left by Riley Leonard. Georgia and South Carolina are intriguing potential destinations for Murphy as well.

Murphy’s entry into the transfer portal came at a challenging time, as it happened ahead of the College Football Playoff. He had stepped in as Texas’s starting quarterback in place of Quinn Ewers, who was sidelined due to an injury. Murphy expressed his frustration about leaving the Longhorns just before the playoff, given his strong investment in the team and the collective effort they had put in throughout the season.

In the 2023 season, Murphy recorded 477 passing yards, three touchdown passes, and three interceptions while serving as Ewers’ backup. Now, he’s on the lookout for a permanent starting role at another university.
