Sean McVay Acknowledges Regret in Handling Jared Goff’s Departure

Jared Goff, who spent the initial five seasons of his NFL career with the Los Angeles Rams, found himself at odds with head coach Sean McVay after the 2020 season. This discord prompted a significant move before the 2021 season, with the Rams opting to trade Goff to the Detroit Lions in exchange for Matthew Stafford.

As the Rams gear up to face Goff and the Lions in the NFC Wild Card round at Ford Field this Sunday, McVay took a moment to reflect on the Goff era. Acknowledging the less-than-ideal handling of the situation, McVay expressed regret over how things transpired.

“Could it have been handled better on my end? Absolutely. And I’ll never run away from that. He deserved better than the way that it all went down. I’ll acknowledge that. And I think he knows that too. And I’m not afraid to admit to those things, but I think we’re all better being able to look back on those things. And I do have more appreciation for him as time goes on.”

Throughout his five seasons with the Rams, Goff showcased his skills by completing 63 percent of his passes, amassing 18,171 yards, 107 touchdowns, and 55 interceptions.

The highly anticipated showdown between the Rams and the Lions is scheduled for Sunday night at 8:20 p.m. Eastern Time.
