Seahawks GM Highlights Owner’s Priority for a ‘Positive Culture’ in Selection of New Head Coach

RENTON, Washington – Following Pete Carroll’s departure, John Schneider, the general manager of the Seattle Seahawks, steps into a new role with authority over personnel and coaching staff oversight. Despite the organizational shift, team owner Jody Allen emphasized the preservation of the positive culture in the Seahawks.

Schneider assured, “It’s clear. It’s concise. We want to keep our positive culture, everything that’s been created here.” The new power structure grants Schneider final say over personnel matters, a departure from the previous structure where Carroll had the ultimate decision-making authority, directly reporting to ownership.

As the Seahawks embark on their head-coaching search, Schneider is leading the effort with a focus on maintaining the foundation of the team’s success. The search includes interviews with several candidates, such as Raheem Morris and Mike Kafka, reflecting the team’s commitment to exploring various options.

Schneider expressed the open-ended nature of the coaching search, emphasizing a thorough examination of potential candidates. While eight candidates, including Dan Quinn and Bobby Slowik, have interview requests, Schneider acknowledged the ongoing movement in college football and didn’t rule out considering college coaches.

With Pete Carroll’s advisory role yet to be defined, Schneider became emotional when reflecting on the past 14 years of collaboration with Carroll. Despite the Seahawks’ “underachievement” in the 2023 season, Schneider and Carroll share a historic partnership, marked by numerous successes, including Super Bowl championships and consistent playoff appearances.

As Schneider navigates the coaching search, he remains appreciative of the positive lessons learned from Carroll and looks forward to continuing their friendship beyond the coaching transition.
