Ron Rivera’s Defiant Response To The Calls For His Firing

Unless there’s a dramatic turnaround, Ron Rivera’s tenure with the Washington Commanders appears to be hanging by a thread.

The frustration among Commanders’ fans has been palpable, reaching a crescendo after their recent loss to the struggling New York Giants. Rivera, however, remains composed in the face of mounting job security concerns.

During a media interaction on Monday, Rivera emphasized his focus on the present and the things he can control.

“I can only control what I can,” Rivera stated. “What happens beyond today, what happens beyond the end of the season, that’s not in my control. So everything I can do is focus on today, the present. That’s the only thing I have. I’ll try to get that across to the players as well. I can’t focus on what I can’t control.”

With a 4-7 record, the Commanders face an uphill battle to secure a playoff berth. To have any chance, they’ll likely need to win at least five of their remaining six games, starting with a Thanksgiving Day showdown against the Dallas Cowboys.

“I try to focus on the Cowboys and just take it one day at a time,” Rivera remarked. “I try to focus in on what’s important today, and that’s preparing for Dallas.”

The Commanders will square off against the Cowboys at 4:30 p.m. ET on Thursday, a pivotal matchup that could have far-reaching implications for both teams.
