NFL officiating has been under fire all season long – hitting a fever pitch during the outrageously controversial Chiefs-Bengals AFC Championship Game.
You can make the argument that NFL officiating has never been worse.
Unfortunately, commissioner Roger Goodell said literally the exact opposite during his Super Bowl press conference yesterday.
“I don’t think it’s ever been better in the league.” Goodell said of the officiating. “Our officials do an extraordinary job.”
Roger Goodell on the state of today’s officiating: “I don’t think it’s ever been better.”

Needless to say, the reaction to that ridiculous comment was swift and harsh…

This has to be the worst season for referees since the lockout. So idk what the hell Goodell is seeing. Probably the same thing the refs are seeing. (Which is nothing) https://t.co/K1uC634R6b

The disconnect between players/ former players + general public and NFL higher ups has never been more clear after what goodell just said ab the refs

It sounds like bullshit, but when you realize that the officials are merely doing Roger Goodell's bidding, no wonder he's happy.
The refs just get their marching orders and execute it (to the detriment of the game). Why would Goodell complain? https://t.co/r3QsLUdNlW

Bigger issue than refs is Goodell clearly. https://t.co/oUhVrVc2Q2 pic.twitter.com/9kaaZrdWz9

Goodell said the refs were the best ever and Twitter went down

The NFL has a serious problem on their hands.
Officiating will never be perfect – but to arrogantly show zero understanding or accountability makes a bad situation worse.
For Goodell’s sake, let’s hope the refs don’t butcher the Super Bowl like they did the AFC Championship Game (and many, many others).
