Report: Two Major Super Bowl Contenders Express Interest In Free Agent RB Dalvin Cook

Two prominent contenders for Super Bowl 58 are reportedly eyeing free agent running back Dalvin Cook, who recently became available after being waived by the New York Jets on Tuesday.

CBS Sports NFL insider Josina Anderson reports that both the Baltimore Ravens and the Dallas Cowboys have expressed interest in potentially signing Cook to their rosters.

The Jets acquired Cook during the previous offseason after his departure from the Minnesota Vikings. There was optimism that Cook would create a formidable RB duo alongside emerging star Breece Hall, but his role in the Jets’ offense remained limited throughout the season.

The four-time Pro Bowler had only 67 rushing attempts, resulting in 214 yards and no touchdowns across 15 games. Cook averaged a career-low 3.2 yards per carry, which can be partially attributed to the challenges posed by the Jets’ offensive line this year.

Known for his pass-catching ability, Cook was targeted just 20 times in the Jets’ passing game. He recorded 15 receptions for 78 yards, failing to find the end zone.

The Baltimore Ravens boast the NFL’s top-ranked rushing offense, averaging 159.7 yards per game on the ground. Lamar Jackson leads the team with 821 rushing yards, closely followed by Gus Edwards, who has accumulated 762 yards and 13 rushing touchdowns.

While Tony Pollard leads the Dallas Cowboys with 935 rushing yards, the team lacks depth in the running back position. Rico Dowdle is a distant second with 315 yards. Dallas could greatly benefit from additional running back support to complement Pollard, and the addition of a proven performer like Cook could address that need.
