In only four months, the NFL’s first-ever game will be played in South America.
The matchup in Brazil just so happens to be an extremely sexy one. Depending on how things shake out, it could very well be one of the most important non-division games of the entire season.
Of course, we’re talking about Packers-Eagles….
Scheduled for Friday, September 6th, the NFC clash will take place at the Sao Paulo Corinthians Arena in Brazil.
Interestingly, the Eagles are designated as the “home” team, yet there’s a chance they won’t be allowed to wear their normal home green uniforms.
Why would that be you ask???
Well, Corinthians, the team whose stadium hosts the game, reportedly maintains a strict ban on the color green at their home games due to their intense rivalry with Palmeiras.
As you might assume, Palmeiras is a Brazilian soccer club well-known for their green uniforms.
According to reports, Corinthians players and fans are forbidden from wearing the color green within the stadium … This prohibition extends to all signage as well.
(You have to admit, that kind of hardcore loyalty is pretty damn cool.)
As a result of this, there is speculation that the Eagles might be forced to forgo their customary home green uniforms and instead opt for either their away white uniforms or alternate black uniforms.
The situation echoes a past incident involving Corinthians striker Jo, who incurred a fine for wearing green cleats in 2021.
In his subsequent apology to fans, Jo emphasized his lifelong allegiance to Corinthians, stating, “I would never disrespect Corinthians, much less the fans. I have always honored this shirt, and I always will honor it.”
Sao Paulo joins London and Munich as host cities for international NFL games next season as the league strengthens their attempt to globalize the sport.
