REPORT: Super Bowl Contender Emerges As Favorite To Sign Zach Ertz … How Could Philly Allow This To Happen??

Veteran tight end Zach Ertz has three Pro Bowls and one Super Bowl title to his name.

Recently released – at his request – by the Arizona Cardinals, Ertz is expected to find a new home in the coming days.

It’s safe to say he’ll be looking to join a contender … Beloved in Philadelphia for his time with the Eagles, many consider a reunion with the Birds to be a mutual fit for both sides.

However, according to Matt Barrow of The Athletic, it seems like the San Francisco 49ers may be the team that’s most interested in signing the veteran.

“49ers are believed to be one of the teams most interested in TE Zach Ertz, who may wait until next week to decide. SF theoretically could put TE Ross Dwelley (high-ankle sprain) on IR to make room. Imagine Shanahan is all for adding a veteran weapon with a SB ring to the roster,” Barrows tweeted.

The 49ers, in pursuit of a tight end to complement superstar George Kittle, view Ertz as a potential game-changer, particularly with backup Ross Dwelley sidelined due to a high-ankle sprain suffered against the Eagles last Sunday.

Niners head coach Kyle Shanahan addressed the speculation surrounding Ertz during a recent press conference.

“I know John looks into all that stuff … I haven’t heard anything about it now, so I wouldn’t think so at this time. But I have a lot of respect for him as a player. I’ve always been a fan,” he said.

“Right now, at least from my standpoint, we’re good with our group. But we have injuries, and things change, so we’ll look at all options, as always.”

Ertz, who gained recognition and admiration during his tenure in Philly, is reportedly drawing interest from the Eagles as well.

His time in Arizona didn’t go nearly according to plan. Despite being a little longer in the tooth at 33-years-old, he still has quality football left in him and is hungry to rejoin a contending team.

What are your thoughts on Ertz?

Just how much does he have left in the tank?

Would it be a mistake for the Eagles to fall asleep at the wheel and allow the Niners to scoop him up?

Looking at it from Ertz’s perspective, where is the best fit for him???
