REPORT: Respected Insider Thinks Forgotten Club Could Go Big-Game Hunting This Offseason

ESPN’s MLB insider Jeff Passan was looking around the league and trying to figure out where some of the available big names would land this offseason.

One destination that kept popping up for him was Seattle.

That’s interesting because the Mariners are building something, there’s no doubt about that. Passan believes that they could possibly pursue a trade for San Diego Padres superstar Juan Soto.

Passan gave his insight during an interview on 710am Seattle, stating: “Mariners fans should understand what’s coming, because when you hear all of these things (the Texas Rangers have), and what that says is ownership needs to recognize this and go out and make bold moves.”

“If you’re the Seattle Mariners, I don’t know if you can sign Juan Soto to a contract long-term, I don’t know if he’s gonna want to stay, but I will say this – the price is going to be a lot lower (to trade for him) than it was a couple of years ago when the Padres traded for him.”

Soto will be under contract for one more season in San Diego. It’s no secret that the Padres are an absolute mess and may very well look to blow up their roster … Trading Soto, perhaps at a slight discount, could be a possibility.

If acquired by the Mariners, Soto would bring a formidable presence to their lineup, alongside talents like J.P. Crawford, Julio Rodriguez, and Teoscar Hernandez. This potential combination of firepower could be quite dangerous in the American League.

Do you think the Mariners should go after Soto?

What else does Seattle have to do this offseason?
