Thankfully, we are just a week away from the start of the 2024 NFL Draft.
Of course, the main storyline surrounding this year’s draft is how it features the best and deepest quarterback class we’ve seen in quite some time.
That doesn’t mean all of the top guys will live up to the hype, but there’s no denying there’s some legitimate talent at the top.
ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter pointed out an interesting nugget about the upcoming draft.
Schefter stated that we could very well see a record number of offensive players picked in the first round.
“There never has been an NFL draft with more than 19 offensive players picked in the first round; that happened three times, most recently in 2009. But this draft is likely to set the record for most offensive players ever picked in round one,” Schefter tweeted on X.
Between all of the quarterbacks, wide receivers and offensive lineman that are expected to be drafted high, Schefter is probably correct with his prediction.
While there are certainly several talented defensive playmakers, 2024 will be an “offensive” draft at the top.
Interestingly, there is a very realistic possibility that we see the first four picks spent on quarterbacks.
Caleb Williams is a virtual lock to be drafted first overall by the Chicago Bears. Meanwhile, it’s looking like Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels will be the Washington Commanders choice at #2.
The New England Patriots own the third pick and are said to be split on the Drake Maye vs. J.J. McCarthy debate.
The meteoric rise that McCarthy has seen over the past month has been interesting. Some teams are reportedly extremely high on him. While others view him closer to a second-round talent.
Whoever the Patriots don’t take will most likely go the very next pick.
The Arizona Cardinals have that #4 pick, but there’s a good chance they’ll trade it to a quarterback hungry team such as the Minnesota Vikings, Denver Broncos or Las Vegas Raiders. (You could throw the New York Giants in there as well.)
Speaking of the quarterbacks, how do you have the top guys ranked?
When it’s all said and done, which one will end up having the best career of all of them???
With all of the focus seemingly on offense, do you think there are any defensive gems in particular who are going overlooked?
Will we indeed see the record broken for most offensive players drafted in the first round???
