REPORT: Loaded Braves Trying To Win Race For Cubs Star Pitcher

With the MLB trade deadline approaching, the Chicago Cubs are expected to be sellers, and one name that could be on the move is veteran starter Kyle Hendricks, the only holdover from the Cubs’ memorable 2016 World Series championship team.

Hendricks has been delivering impressive performances on the mound since his return earlier this season, boasting a 3.57 ERA with a 1.086 WHIP in 58.0 innings pitched. His consistency and experience make him an appealing asset for contending teams, and the Cubs are actively looking to move him ahead of the August 1st deadline.

Among the teams showing interest in Hendricks, the Atlanta Braves have emerged as a potential fit, according to MLB.com.

While the Braves are cruising towards another division title, their back-end rotation behind Spencer Strider, Bryce Elder, and Charlie Morton has been thin. The potential addition of Hendricks would provide crucial depth and stability to their pitching staff.

“It’s hard to say Atlanta has any glaring need as the Braves cruise toward another division title, but the back end of the rotation behind Spencer Strider, Bryce Elder, and Charlie Morton is thin,” writes Mark Feinsand.

“Even when Max Fried gets healthy, innings limits could come into play for Elder, making the addition of rotation depth important.”

Hendricks’ recent success can be attributed to a change in approach where he now calls all of his own pitches, making him a valuable member of the already formidable Chicago rotation. If he can carry his skills and leadership to the Braves, they would undoubtedly become one of the most dangerous clubs in MLB.

In addition to his on-field value, Hendricks also has a $16 million club option for the 2024 MLB season, making him an attractive long-term investment for the acquiring team while raising his trade value for the Cubs.

With a strong farm system, the Atlanta Braves possess the type of prospects the Cubs will be seeking in return for Hendricks. This potential trade seems to be a good match for both sides, with the Braves getting the much-needed rotation depth, and the Cubs securing valuable assets for the future.

Do you think the Braves should trade for Hendricks?
