REPORT: Jon Gruden Has Emerged As A Real Contender For Major Coaching Job…

Former Las Vegas Raiders head coach Jon Gruden, whose career in the NFL came to an abrupt end amid a scandal involving leaked personal emails, is now making headlines in the college football world.

Gruden’s name resurfaced in connection with the Indiana Hoosiers coaching vacancy after the recent dismissal of Tom Allen, who served as head coach for eight seasons.

Allen’s departure was announced on Sunday after a tenure that saw the team go 33-49, including three bowl game appearances.

Despite the postseason opportunities, Allen was unable to secure a bowl game victory, and his most successful season was an eight-win campaign in 2019.

Indiana athletics director Scott Dolson explained the decision, stating: “After continued evaluation of our entire football program, I have determined that we have lost momentum and that a change in leadership is necessary at this time.”

Dolson expressed gratitude to Allen, saying: “I want to thank Tom for all of the contributions he has made to IU in his seven years leading our program. His passion, character, and class made a positive impact on our student-athletes. We wish him well in his future endeavors.”

As the search for a new head coach begins, Gruden’s name has emerged as a “big wildcard candidate,” according to a report from The Athletic.

Gruden reportedly has support from influential figures within the Indiana community.

Other potential candidates mentioned include Michigan’s offensive coordinator Sherrone Moore, Alabama offensive coordinator Tommy Rees, and Washington State head coach Jake Dickert.

Gruden, who has been out of football since the scandal that led to his departure from the Raiders, has engaged in consulting work for the New Orleans Saints.

His last stint in the NCAA ranks dates back to 1989 when he served as a tight ends coach at Pacific.

Despite the controversy surrounding his exit from the NFL, Gruden’s potential return to coaching has sparked interest and intrigue from many.

The IU administration has not yet commented on specific candidates for the vacant head coaching position … The search for Allen’s successor is expected to unfold in the coming weeks.

Hoosier fans aren’t the only ones who are interested in Gruden … You have to imagine it’s only a matter of time before he gets another coaching opportunity.

What are your thoughts on the report?

Should Indiana go hard after Gruden?

Where do you think his next stop will be???
