REPORT: Jack Flaherty Nearly Traded To A Different Contender Before Trade Fell Through

As it turns out, the St. Louis Cardinals trade of Jack Flaherty to the Baltimore Orioles almost didn’t happen.

It was revealed that the Tampa Bay Rays had come close to acquiring the talented right-handed pitcher before the deal ultimately fell through.

““The Rays agreed with the Cardinals on a trade for right-hander Jack Flaherty in the final hours before the Aug. 1 deadline. But the deal collapsed in the medical-review stage, according to sources… The medical issue presumably was not with Flaherty,” Ken Rosenthal reported.

The Cardinals had been active sellers at the trade deadline, with a focus on bolstering their bullpen. Flaherty, a key asset in their starting rotation, was traded to the Orioles in exchange for two of Baltimore’s top-20 prospects.

Since his arrival in Baltimore, Flaherty has contributed to the team’s impressive success, helping them maintain their position atop the American League standings.

Flaherty has provided stability to the Orioles pitching staff. However, the Rays, who are lockstep with the Orioles in the standings, might be feeling a bit disappointed about missing out on Flaherty.
