REPORT: Dodgers Eyeing Trade For Pair Of Cardinals To Put Them Over The Top

The St. Louis Cardinals and Los Angeles Dodgers are reportedly engaged in serious talks about a potential blockbuster trade that could reshape both teams’ rosters.

With the August 1st trade deadline just days away, the Dodgers are eager to bolster their starting pitching and outfield positions, and the Cardinals might have the perfect match.

According to MLB Pipeline, the Dodgers boast one of the most enviable farm systems in the league, particularly when it comes to pitching prospects. With 12 promising young arms in their top 30 prospects, the Dodgers have valuable assets to offer in any potential deal.

The Athletic’s Fabian Ardaya revealed that the Dodgers are in need of a right-handed bat and accurately predicted their interest in Kiké Hernández, whom they had recently acquired via trade.

It seems they are also considering Cardinals outfielders Tyler O’Neill and Dylan Carlson as potential targets.

Both O’Neill and Carlson have shown flashes of brilliance but haven’t consistently performed offensively for the Cardinals this season. O’Neill is currently posting a .234/.311/.346 slash line, while Carlson is batting .233/.335/.354.

They possess serious power at the plate and excel defensively, making them appealing options for the Dodgers.

Los Angeles is leading the National League West division and are determined to fortify their lineup ahead of the crucial playoff push. Center fielder Trayce Thompson’s lackluster performance and left fielder Jonny DeLuca’s inconsistent numbers have created a void that the team is eager to address.

With both O’Neill and Carlson under team control for several more years (O’Neill through 2024 and Carlson through 2026), they offer the Dodgers the opportunity to acquire young talent that can contribute for the long term.

The Cardinals, on the other hand, have a chance to capitalize on the Dodgers deep pitching prospects pool. It is rumored that the Cardinals may consider packaging outfielders with pitcher Jordan Montgomery to secure the largest return possible from the Dodgers.

As the trade deadline quickly approaches, both teams will be carefully evaluating their options and seeking to strike a deal that satisfies their respective needs.

If the talks progress, this potential trade could be one of the most significant moves of the season, reshaping the landscape of both the Cardinals and Dodgers and potentially impacting the playoff race in the National League.

What do you think the Dodgers should do?
