REPORT: Chase Young Is On The Trade Block & Could Wind Up Here…

Intentionally or unintentionally, the Washington Commanders have thrust Chase Young into the forefront of NFL trade rumors by declining the fifth-year option on his rookie deal.

This unexpected move has surprised many, as the number two overall selection of the 2020 NFL Draft is now entering a contract year.

The Commanders decision raises questions about their long-term plans for Young, especially considering his potential as a dominant force on the field.

If the explosive defensive end manages to stay healthy and continues his impressive production in 2023, Washington may come to regret not exercising the fifth-year option.

The possibility of a trade involving Young has attracted significant attention across the league. Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports has proposed several potential landing spots for the talented Ohio State product.

One potential landing spot could be the Indianapolis Colts, who are looking to end a three-year playoff drought and could benefit greatly from Young’s presence on their defense.

Benjamin explains, “Between DeForest Buckner, Grover Stewart, and Kwity Paye, they’re not hurting for talent in the trenches. But their leading pass rusher from a year ago, Yannick Ngakoue, will be gone, leaving a slew of reserves to pick up the slack.”

“Under new coach Shane Steichen, they seem to be taking a longer-term approach, at least according to their QB activity, and Young is early enough in his career that he could still be more of a down-the-road project.”

While the Colts boast a formidable front seven, the addition of Young alongside standout players like Buckner and Paye would undeniably bolster their chances of reaching the playoffs in 2023.

Young made a significant impact for Washington in his rookie year, contributing to the team’s surprise NFC East division crown in 2020.

With 7.5 sacks, four pass defenses, and as many forced fumbles, Young showcased his exceptional skills and impact.. Unfortunately, his sophomore campaign was marred by a season-ending ACL tear, limiting his playing time to just 12 games over the 2021 and 2022 seasons.

Regardless of whether he remains in Washington or finds himself elsewhere in 2023, a healthy version of the talented defensive end promises to make a substantial difference to any team.

It also goes without saying that a healthy and impactful season would set him up for a lucrative payday in 2024 and beyond.

Here’s an idea of what the betting markets project for Young’s future (via BetOnline)…
