Report: Big Ten Program Leading Contender For Kyle McCord After Transfer Portal Entry

Another Big Ten football program appears to be leading the race to secure the services of Ohio State transfer quarterback Kyle McCord. Following his entry into the transfer portal at the conclusion of the 2023 regular season, reports suggest that Nebraska is emerging as the frontrunner to land him.

ESPN’s Pete Thamel shared this development during a recent episode of ‘College GameDay,’ indicating that Nebraska has surged ahead as the top destination for McCord.

Should the Cornhuskers successfully acquire McCord through the transfer portal, it implies a significant financial commitment, as head coach Matt Rhule recently acknowledged that securing a talented quarterback transfer could cost upwards of $1 million.

Rhule emphasized, “Make no mistake: a good quarterback in the portal costs $1 million to $1.5 million to $2 million right now.” He clarified the financial landscape surrounding high-demand quarterback transfers in college football, with some teams investing in players valued at $6-7 million.

While McCord may not be considered an elite quarterback, he ranks among the top available options in the current transfer market. Many schools are vying for his talents, but it appears that Nebraska is positioned as a favorable destination. The final decision on McCord’s new home is yet to be confirmed, but Nebraska seems to be a strong contender.
