REPORT: 2 Major Clubs Could Be Fighting Over Mike Trout As Angels Tenure Seems To Be Over

Los Angeles Angels center fielder Mike Trout, often considered one of baseball’s greatest talents, has not initiated a trade request, but recent reports suggest that two prominent teams might be interested in acquiring him should he decide to part ways with the Angels.

Reports indicate that the Angels would be open to trading Trout if he expressed a desire to move elsewhere. Currently, Trout is still under contract for approximately $248 million over the next seven years.

According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, two major market clubs are expected to be interested in trading for the 3-time AL MVP.

“Folks believe the hometown Phillies and Yankees might be of interest” if Trout were to seek a trade…

However, any potential trade involving Trout would likely require the Angels to provide financial incentives. Given Trout’s age, 32, and his history of injuries, where he has missed significant portions of the last three seasons, it is improbable that any team would willingly accept his contract as is.

The Phillies are among the potential suitors for Trout due to his connection with the team as his hometown club. Trout holds a no-trade clause, which means he would have to approve any trade destination.

The allure of playing for his hometown team could be a compelling factor in his decision.

On the other hand, the New York Yankees, who are about to put a bow on what has been a nightmare 2023 season, are expected to go big-game hunting this offseason.

The Yankees currently have a substantial long-term contract with Giancarlo Stanton, and they might explore the possibility of swapping contracts. Notably, Stanton’s contract is slightly cheaper on an annual basis, and he is set to become a free agent after the 2027 season, while Trout’s contract extends through 2030.

Ultimately, it is essential to emphasize that any potential trade involving Trout remains contingent on his willingness to leave the Angels. As of now, Trout has not expressed such intentions.

Do you think Trout should ask for a trade?

If so, what would be the best landing spot for him?
